Solar Eclipse 2012

We were traveling home from our 2 week vacation, when we stopped at a rest stop in Southern Utah... there were people setting up telescopes, looking through special glasses, and lots of people just sitting around shooting the breeze...as if waiting for something... so curiousity got the better of us and we asked some nice looking folks what was up...and they looked at us like we were idiots (and I guess we were really)... because we didn't know anything about the solor eclipse that was about to happen! Well, the nice people had some extra glasses that they gave the kids, but since the moment of the ring of fire was still an hour or so away, we decided to keep heading home. However, since a complete solor eclipse and hence the whole ring of fire only happens once every twenty years or so, we felt obligated to see it and share that experience with our kids. So, at the appointed time, we pulled off the road and saw the magnificent view. After experiencing it, it was definitely worth it - it was pretty neat! The kids all had fun taking turns with the special glasses looking at the moon going across the sun. We found out from some kids who were also looking at the eclipse - you can use a piece of camera film to look at the sun too - it works just like the glasses! So now, May 20, 2012 is marked in our history - Day we saw the solar eclipse as a family on the side of the road somewhere in Nevada!
